Aberdeen Airport strike cancelled after last-minute pay deal

Fourteen days of planned strike action by security staff at Aberdeen Airport have been called off after a last-minute agreement over pay. The walkout, involving baggage screening staff, had been due to begin on Monday and was expected to cause significant disruption. The Unite union said it had been left with no option as negotiations with ICTS HBS Security, through the conciliation service Acas, failed to produce a breakthrough. But on Friday evening, ICTS confirmed that an agreement had been reached and the proposed industrial action was cancelled. "We're pleased to confirm that an agreement with our colleagues working within hold baggage screening at Aberdeen airport has been reached," an ICTS spokesman said. "We have been informed that the proposed industrial action will now not take place." Unite said the revised offer would now be voted on by its members. Unite members had unanimously supported industrial action at Aberdeen. The deal comes after summer strikes at Glasgow and Edinburgh airports were averted following new agreements. The union recently resolved two separate pay disputes at Aberdeen Airport involving ICTS central search and Aberdeen Airport Limited workers. Aberdeen Airport said it had robust contingency measures in place and no impact had been expected had the strikes gone ahead.
