Nathan Ake has ended his six-year stay at Manchester City, joining Turkish side Fenerbahce in a deal that could reach £8.5m. The Netherlands defender, 31, cost City £40m when he arrived from Bournemouth in 2020, but with only one year left on his contract and limited game time under Pep Guardiola, his departure was widely anticipated.
Fenerbahce have paid an initial £7m, with the remainder dependent on add-ons. Ake made just six Premier League starts last season and only 17 starts across all competitions – a sharp drop from the peak of City’s Treble-winning campaign.
“Fenerbahce sign Nathan Ake from Manchester City in a deal worth up to £8.5m.”
“It's been a privilege to represent Manchester City over the past six years,” Ake said. “I'm so grateful to have been part of a special team. I've grown so much here – as a player and a person.” In that time he won four Premier League titles, two FA Cups, two League Cups and the Champions League, playing 177 games for the club.
His final international appearance came at the 2026 World Cup, where he featured three times before the Netherlands were eliminated by Morocco in the last 32. Now he heads to Istanbul, taking with him memories of City’s historic Treble and a locker full of winner’s medals.
