Third, Burnham is expected to pivot towards a UK-focused AI strategy, prioritising domestic development over foreign partnerships. Fourth, a clampdown on VPN usage is anticipated, tightening controls on anonymous internet access. Fifth, a tax reversal aimed at reviving contractor hiring — a direct appeal to the freelance workforce that had been squeezed by recent reforms.
For IT contractors, the combination is a mixed bag. The loss of Palantir contracts could unsettle some NHS-based temporary workers, but the tax reversal and the end of digital ID may open new doors. The focus on UK AI and the VPN clampdown signal a more protectionist, security-conscious approach.
