Arsenal turn to Gibbs-White after Rogers responds to Man Utd interest and Alvarez favours Barcelona

Arsenal’s summer transfer plans have suffered a double blow after Julian Alvarez made clear he favours Barcelona over a move to London and Morgan Rogers responded to Manchester United’s interest in a manner that leaves the Gunners empty-handed.

The Atletico Madrid striker is understood to favour Barcelona over a switch to the Emirates, according to the latest reports. Meanwhile, Aston Villa’s Morgan Rogers — long admired by Arsenal — has already responded to United’s interest, and it is not good news for the north London club. The Villa star is expected to be at the centre of a transfer tussle this summer, but his response has pushed Arsenal towards a fallback option.

The Gunners have now earmarked Nottingham Forest’s Morgan Gibbs‑White as their alternative to Rogers. Gibbs‑White, who has impressed in the Premier League, could become Arsenal’s primary target if their pursuit of Alvarez and Rogers falters.

Elsewhere, Manchester United are set for a sizeable windfall from Marseille, with presidential candidate Hakan Safi claiming Mason Greenwood has agreed to join Fenerbahce. United inserted a 40 per cent sell‑on clause when they moved the academy graduate on two years ago, meaning they will benefit from any transfer fee.

Liverpool are determined to keep hold of teenage talent Rio Ngumoha despite interest from Bayern Munich, who are exploring a move for the youngster. In north London, Tottenham’s Micky van de Ven is attracting attention from Real Madrid, with the Spanish giants reportedly ‘ready’ to move for the defender.

Inter Milan’s interest in Liverpool midfielder Curtis Jones has been confirmed by sporting director Piero Ausilio. “Curtis Jones we are paying attention to. We didn't hide. We understand what the developments will be,” Ausilio said. Jones has also asked Liverpool team‑mate Federico Chiesa about life in Italy. “Jones just asked me what life is like in Italy,” Chiesa confirmed. “I told him it's great and the weather is better than Liverpool, which aside from that is a special place. Jones is really strong technically, Inter are right to think about him.”

Tottenham, meanwhile, are ready to continue their summer spending spree with a move for Manchester City winger Savinho. Spurs boss Roberto De Zerbi is overseeing a huge transfer splurge to bolster the squad, and the £50m‑rated Savinho is ready to move to London. The 22‑year‑old was a target last summer but City resisted the move at the time.

With the transfer window gathering pace, Arsenal face a crucial few weeks as they look to secure their primary targets — or settle for plan B.
