Arsenal: Newcastle contact Gunners over Bruno Guimaraes as Fabio Vieira back in training despite Hamburg bid

Newcastle United have contacted Arsenal to gauge their interest in captain Bruno Guimaraes, as the midfielder becomes the subject of growing uncertainty on Tyneside. According to Sky Sports, the Magpies took the unusual step of initiating dialogue after receiving no direct contact from the Gunners themselves, with conversations so far taking place through intermediaries.

The approach comes after Arsenal wrapped up early summer moves for defender Piero Hincapie and goalkeeper Illan Meslier, and now appear to be turning their attention to central midfield. However, with Chelsea having already beaten them to the signing of Morgan Rogers, the Gunners have also been linked with Bournemouth's Alex Scott as a potential alternative to Guimaraes.

Newcastle, who have already lost Sandro Tonali this window, are said to worry their captain has been unsettled by the background chatter. Guimaraes could yet move this summer, though no formal bid has been reported.

Meanwhile, Fabio Vieira has returned to Arsenal training despite interest from Hamburg. The German side opted against triggering a £17m clause for a permanent deal in the summer, but board member Eric Huwer confirmed they remain keen. "We've kind of fallen in love with Fabio," Huwer told Kicker. "We're fighting for him every day and have also submitted figures to Arsenal. They're not even budging yet."

Hamburg's confidence in securing Vieira, who impressed on loan last season, has not swayed Arsenal. The club may be awaiting bids from other suitors before making a decision on the Portuguese playmaker.

With Arsenal's first pre-season friendly against Girona on August 1, Mikel Arteta's squad is taking shape. But the futures of both Guimaraes and Vieira remain unresolved, leaving supporters guessing ahead of the new campaign.
