Ever wanted to see a World Cup match through a player's eyes? You can now, as the BBC launches a UK-first interactive Fifa World Cup 3D Experience, starting with Friday's game between Canada and Bosnia-Herzegovina at 20:00 BST.
The experience, available only on BBC Sport, gives viewers full control over their match view. Choose from four camera angles: broadcast view where you control the camera, tactical view offering a bird's-eye perspective of the full pitch, third-person view to follow your favourite player, and first-person view to see the match through a player's eyes.
“BBC launches UK-first 3D World Cup experience for Canada vs Bosnia-Herzegovina on Friday.”
Powered by live official Fifa data and technology from XR company Immersiv.io, the beta 3D experience uses skeletal data to recreate the match as it happens — similar to the semi-automated offside technology used in top-level football. You can watch in real-time, rewind key moments, switch cameras, and see stats. After the match, highlights mode shows all goals, shots and penalties, with full-match replays also available.
The experience is only available to UK users, and works for games broadcast on BBC TV. To get started, head to bbc.co.uk/3dWorldCup. Throughout the tournament, it will be easy to find on the BBC Sport website and app, appearing in live match pages and the sport, football and World Cup indexes.
