A record number of people have been visiting BBC Sport’s website and app during the World Cup, the broadcaster has said, as fans flock to its coverage of the tournament alongside Wimbledon, Formula 1 and cricket.
The surge in traffic has been matched by a wave of new features designed to keep audiences engaged beyond the final whistle. BBC Sport has launched a Shorts tab on the app, a Predictor game, and a Fifa World Cup 3D Experience, while the ‘as it stands’ projection for the last 32 was a major hit among users tracking knockout-stage paths. A new Who Am I? quiz format and live comments in match pages have also been added, all based on audience feedback.
“BBC Sport reports record visitors during World Cup, unveils new features and outlines post-tournament plans.”
“We’re delighted to see you all enjoying our coverage of the World Cup – as well as Wimbledon, Formula 1, cricket, and much more – across all of our platforms,” BBC Sport said in a statement.
When the tournament ends, the platform will shift its focus to club football, with pre-season coverage, transfer news, and in-depth features. Senior football correspondent Sami Mokbel will break the biggest transfer stories, while a daily gossip column will round up rumours. A new weekly Predictor game, featuring five fixtures to predict, will launch immediately after the World Cup.
BBC Sport covers every club in the Premier League, WSL, EFL, and sides in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, with dedicated reporters travelling to pre-season tours for behind-the-scenes insights. Selected pre-season matches will have live pages, and the broadcaster promises strong analysis and expert insights throughout the build-up to the 2026-27 season.
