BBC to show 54 World Cup matches as England prepare for Ghana clash

The biggest World Cup in history is almost here – and England will face Ghana in their second Group L match on Tuesday 23 June, with the BBC broadcasting live from Boston’s Gillette Stadium. The 2026 tournament, hosted across the United States, Canada and Mexico, features 48 teams for the first time, and the BBC will show 54 matches live, including the final on 19 July. A further 92 games will be available on BBC Sounds, and every single match will be covered on the BBC Sport website and app.

England’s fixture against Ghana kicks off at 9pm UK time – 4pm local in Massachusetts – and BBC One’s coverage will begin at 8pm with a full hour of build-up, analysis and interviews. Viewers can also stream the match live and free on BBC iPlayer and the BBC Sport website, provided they hold a valid TV licence. In the United States, the match will be shown on FOX and Telemundo.

The Guardian, meanwhile, has launched an interactive bracketology feature that allows fans to click through the group stage and knockout rounds to predict the eventual champion. The tool is designed to let readers plot a path to victory, from the opening matches in June all the way to the final in July.

With 48 teams competing across three host nations, this World Cup promises to be the most expansive yet, and BBC’s comprehensive coverage means no match will be out of reach for UK audiences. England’s second group game against Ghana is one of the most anticipated encounters of the early stages, with both sides looking to take control of their group.
