Jude Bellingham scored twice – including a 93rd-minute winner in extra time – to drag England into the World Cup semi-finals, but manager Thomas Tuchel was livid. "The result is fantastic, but I'm not happy with the performance," he said after the 2-1 quarter-final victory over Norway in Miami. Norway had taken the lead through Andreas Schjelderup in the 36th minute, before Bellingham equalised just before half-time with a low strike after a controversial sequence involving a possible camera cable deflection. In extra time, he pounced on a loose rebound when Norway goalkeeper Orjan Nyland failed to hold Morgan Rogers' fierce shot. Yet Tuchel described his side as "lucky" and listed a litany of complaints: "We made life difficult for ourselves … sloppy, a lot of technical mistakes, not fast enough, not repetitive enough." He wants England to play deliberate passes to entice pressure, then accelerate into space – a system that has only appeared in glimpses. Bellingham responded bluntly when asked about the criticism: "Whatever." The win sets up a first-ever meeting with Lionel Messi's Argentina in the semi-final. Tuchel may not be happy, but England keep winning.
