Brentford sign Jaidon Anthony from Burnley in £17m deal

Jaidon Anthony is returning to London. Brentford have completed the signing of the 26-year-old forward from Burnley for an initial £15m, rising to £17m with add-ons, on a four-year contract with an option for an extra year.

Anthony, who grew up in the capital and came through Arsenal’s academy, left the Gunners in 2016 without making a senior appearance. He rebuilt his career at Bournemouth after loan spells at Weymouth and Leeds United, before joining Burnley on loan in 2024. That move became permanent last summer when Burnley triggered an £8m obligation-to-buy clause following promotion to the Premier League.

But the Clarets lasted only one season in the top flight. Relegation in May prompted a squad reshuffle, and Anthony – who scored nine goals and added four assists in 38 appearances across all competitions last term – has now moved back south. “We’ve been aware of Jaidon’s journey for a long, long time and have always admired him from afar,” said Brentford manager Keith Andrews. “He did really well last season, which is difficult in a team that got relegated.”

Andrews sees Anthony as a natural fit for his system. “After meeting him, it became very evident that he’d fit into the culture of the club and add to the squad,” he added. “He still has so much more room for growth and improvement, and we’re really looking forward to working with him.”

Anthony becomes Brentford’s second summer signing, following defender Jannik Schuster from RB Salzburg for a deal worth up to £16m. The Bees narrowly missed out on European qualification last season, finishing ninth on goal difference, and will open their Premier League campaign against Tottenham. Burnley, meanwhile, face West Ham in their Championship opener on 16 August.

For Anthony, the move represents a chance to reconnect with his roots. The Londoner, who has 17 goals and 11 assists in 81 games for Burnley, will hope to help push Brentford into Europe.
