Jaidon Anthony is heading home. The 26-year-old forward has signed for Brentford from Burnley on a four-year contract, with an option for a fifth, in a deal worth £15m that could rise to £17m with add-ons. For Anthony, a Londoner who began his career in Arsenal’s academy, the move represents a return to his roots after years of carving out a reputation in the north.

Anthony’s journey has been anything but straightforward. He left Arsenal in 2016 without making a senior appearance, then rebuilt his career at Bournemouth after loan spells at Weymouth and Leeds United. His breakthrough came at Burnley, initially on loan in 2024, with the move made permanent last summer after promotion to the Premier League triggered an £8m obligation-to-buy clause.

Last season, Anthony contributed nine goals and four assists in 38 appearances across all competitions — impressive numbers for a player in a team that struggled. But it was not enough to keep Burnley in the top flight; the Clarets were relegated after just one season back.

Brentford manager Keith Andrews has long admired Anthony from a distance. “We’ve been aware of Jaidon’s journey for a long, long time and have always admired him from afar,” Andrews said. “He did really well last season, which is difficult in a team that got relegated. After meeting him, it became very evident that he’d fit into the culture of the club and add to the squad. He still has so much more room for growth and improvement, and we’re really looking forward to working with him.”

The signing continues Brentford’s active summer. The Bees have already added defender Jannik Schuster from RB Salzburg in a deal worth up to £16m including add-ons. Brentford narrowly missed out on European qualification last season, finishing ninth on goal difference, and will open their Premier League campaign against Tottenham. Burnley, meanwhile, face West Ham in their first game back in the Championship on 16 August.
