CCTV footage released by prosecutors shows the moment three teenagers who murdered 16-year-old Kayden Moy ran from the scene of the attack on Irvine beach, North Ayrshire, appearing to congratulate each other.
The clip, shown to jurors during the trial at the High Court in Glasgow, captures Jay Stewart, 19, and Cole Turley, 18, apparently shaking hands as they sprint through the town. In his sentencing remarks, Judge Lord Scott said they had appeared to “celebrate” the crime.
“CCTV shows three teenagers shaking hands after murdering 16-year-old Kayden Moy on Irvine beach; they were sentenced Tuesday.”
Another clip shows the trio in the sand dunes after the attack on 17 May. Stewart can be seen bare-chested and holding a cosh – a small, handheld blunt weapon – as he shouts at crowds on the dunes while Turley runs to him. A third clip shows the teenagers in an East Kilbride stairwell following the killing.
A still image released by the Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service (COPFS) shows the accused walking away from the crime scene after Kayden was fatally injured.
On Tuesday, the three teenagers were sentenced at the High Court in Glasgow. Turley admitted the killing, while Stewart and a 15-year-old boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, were found guilty of murder last month following a trial. All three acted together to carry out the attack at Irvine beach.
The chilling footage was made public after the sentencing, offering a glimpse of the moments following the fatal assault that ended the life of the 16-year-old.
