Denmark striker Kasper Hogh walked into the room at Celtic Park and saw the shirt. He was, he said, “really excited.” The feeling in his stomach told him this was “a really good match.” That feeling cost Celtic a record transfer fee: £11m to Bodo/Glimt, making the 25-year-old the club's most expensive signing ever.
Hogh has signed a four-year contract with an option for a further year, becoming Celtic’s second summer recruit after Camilo Duran. His arrival eases some fan pressure on the board following the departure of Japan forward Daizen Maeda, who joined Ipswich Town for a reported £10m on a three-year deal until summer 2029.

Maeda, 28, scored 79 goals in 212 appearances for Celtic, winning five league titles, three Scottish Cups and two League Cups. He was part of Japan’s squad at the 2026 World Cup, helping them reach the last 32 before Brazil knocked them out. “I have always dreamed of playing in the Premier League,” Maeda told Ipswich’s website. “My aim will always be to battle hard, score goals, and provide assists.” Ipswich manager Gary O’Neil said Maeda “works extremely hard and has impressive physical attributes.”
Hogh, meanwhile, brings a proven goalscoring record: 54 goals in 103 games for Bodo/Glimt, five of them in last season’s Champions League. He was the club’s top scorer in 2025 with 17 goals, though Bodo/Glimt finished second, one point behind Viking. In January, he scored twice in a 3-1 Champions League win over Manchester City and netted again in a 2-1 victory at Atletico Madrid.
His career has been a slow burner. He came through the youth ranks at Randers, then moved to second-tier Hobro after an injury-hit spell, including a loan to Valur in Iceland. A switch to AaB followed in January 2022, then a year later to Stabaek – where his career took off after scoring eight goals in 14 games. Within three months, he signed a pre-contract with Bodo/Glimt to join in January 2024.
“I like to be in the box and score goals, but I also want to help my team-mates defensively,” Hogh said. “I feel ready. I just want to get started and be thrown into the fire.”
Celtic now have a new focal point in attack, but the shadow of Maeda’s departure lingers. The Japanese forward left a gap described by BBC Sport Scotland’s Charlotte Cohen as “massive” after his “massive impact.” Hogh will have to fill it.
