Coventry to mark top-flight return with trip to champions Arsenal

Newly promoted Coventry City will begin their first Premier League campaign in 25 years with a Friday night trip to the champions, Arsenal, on 21 August – a fixture that pits Frank Lampard’s Sky Blues against Mikel Arteta’s side, who ended a 22-year title drought last season.

The Championship winners’ return to the top flight is the standout opener of the 2026-27 season, which starts 34 days after the World Cup final in the United States. Hull City, promoted via the play-offs, host Manchester United on Saturday 22 August, while fellow newcomers Ipswich entertain Sunderland the same day.

Manchester City face a new era without Pep Guardiola when they welcome Bournemouth on Sunday 23 August, the same day Andoni Iraola takes charge of Liverpool for the first time away at Newcastle. The Cherries also begin with a new manager, Marco Rose. Chelsea’s first match under Xabi Alonso is an away trip to Fulham on Monday 24 August.

The schedule includes a full Boxing Day round after last season’s solitary game, with Lampard’s Coventry visiting Chelsea. The season ends on 30 May 2027, later than usual because of the World Cup, with Arsenal hosting Brighton, Manchester City travelling to Sunderland, and Liverpool entertaining Iraola’s former club Bournemouth.
