Dominik Szoboszlai has signed a new Liverpool contract to 2031, describing it as “maybe my biggest day” and ranking it among the top three moments of his life – behind only his first Liverpool signing and the birth of his child. The Hungary captain, who had two years left on his previous deal, ended months of negotiations with sporting director Richard Hughes by committing his future to Anfield.
The 25-year-old was Liverpool’s standout performer during a difficult 2025-26 season under Arne Slot, scoring 13 goals and providing 12 assists since his £60m move from RB Leipzig in 2023. “I think I can do even better,” Szoboszlai said. “I want to win everything that is possible in this country, also let’s say the Champions League.”
“Dominik Szoboszlai has signed a Liverpool contract to 2031, calling it one of his top three life moments.”
The new deal is a significant boost for new head coach Andoni Iraola, with Liverpool seeing Szoboszlai as a future leader. He is a strong contender to become vice-captain after Andy Robertson’s departure this summer.
Elsewhere, Arsenal forward Leandro Trossard has joined Turkish side Besiktas for £15.3m on a three-year contract with a further one-year option. The 31-year-old Belgian scored 36 goals in 174 appearances for the Gunners, helping them win last season’s Premier League title, and started all six games at this summer’s World Cup.
Aston Villa are closing on a £38m deal for Wolves midfielder João Gomes, with the Brazil international flying back from the relegated club’s camp in the Algarve to undergo a medical. Villa are also finalising a £52m club-record deal for Freiburg’s versatile Switzerland midfielder Johan Manzambi.
Szoboszlai’s commitment underlines Liverpool’s determination to retain their best players after losing Trent Alexander-Arnold and Ibrahima Konate to Real Madrid this summer. “When I signed, I said I want to win everything,” he said. “That didn’t change for a little moment either.”
