Brazil midfielder Ederson has signed a contract extension at Atalanta after a proposed £35m move to Manchester United collapsed at the medical stage. The 27-year-old was set for a medical in early July but received a late Brazil World Cup call-up after Wesley's injury, delaying the process. Initial tests in the US flagged a concern, prompting Ederson to fly to England for further tests following Brazil's World Cup last-16 defeat to Norway. Specialists were consulted, and United backed out, though sources said the deal could be resurrected later on different terms. Instead, Ederson extended his deal, with Atalanta not announcing the length. Meanwhile, Manchester United have signed midfielders Youri Tielemans and Andrey Santos, plus goalkeeper Karl Darlow.
Paul Scholes has accused England manager Thomas Tuchel of wanting to be sacked after the Three Lions' semi-final World Cup exit to Argentina. Tuchel, under contract until after the next Euros, criticised English football's DNA and his substitutions came under scrutiny. "I think his comments since the game have actually made it worse than the performances," Scholes said on The Good, The Bad & The Football. "Saying it's not in the English DNA. You're part of that DNA now, Thomas." Scholes added that Tuchel "has a bit of a history with this at football clubs" and is "maybe just engineering his way out." Nicky Butt also questioned Tuchel's approach, suggesting FA PR should coach him on what to say. Scholes replied: "I don't think he cares."
