An 85-year-old woman and an 88-year-old man are in critical condition after being struck by a car outside Edinburgh Royal Infirmary on Monday afternoon.
The pair were hit at around 3.40pm on Little France Crescent by a red Peugeot 208, sparking a large emergency response. Scottish Fire and Rescue Service mobilised three fire appliances and specialist resources to the scene after receiving a report at 3.49pm.
“Two pensioners, 85 and 88, are critical after a car struck them outside Edinburgh Royal Infirmary.”
Four casualties were passed into the care of the Scottish Ambulance Service, the fire service said, with the elderly pedestrians suffering life-threatening injuries.
Police are appealing for witnesses and dashcam footage. “I am appealing to anyone who witnessed the incident and has yet to speak to officers to please come forward,” said Sergeant Paul Ewing. “I’d also ask those with dash-cam footage who may have been parked or driving into the area at the time to please review this to see if it has captured anything that could assist with our investigation.”
The collision occurred just outside the Royal Infirmary, Edinburgh’s main teaching hospital, adding a cruel irony to a devastating scene.
