Eight people were killed and 62 injured after Ukrainian drones struck two warehouses belonging to Wildberries, Russia's largest online retailer, in a wave of attacks that also targeted an oil depot and damaged a kindergarten. The strikes, which Russian officials described as the largest and most inhumane assault on the Tambov region, hit facilities in Elektrostal near Moscow and Kotovsk in the Tambov region.
At the Tambov warehouse, seven night-shift workers died on the spot, according to the regional governor, Evgeny Pervyshov. He said 25 people were wounded, seven in serious condition, mostly from shrapnel. In Elektrostal, one person was killed and 37 injured, with Moscow region governor Andrei Vorobyov reporting that eight of the injured were in a serious condition. He added that a total of 48 drones were shot down over the Moscow region overnight, and that a Russian oil depot had been struck by a falling drone – an incident he described as having "the most serious consequences."
“Eight killed, 62 injured as Ukrainian drones hit Wildberries warehouses near Moscow and in Tambov.”
Unverified footage from the scene showed flames and huge plumes of black smoke rising from a vast logistics building, with dozens of workers running into a car park. Another clip appeared to show the walls of a warehouse disintegrate as they were engulfed by flames. Wildberries CEO Tatyana Kim described it as a "terrible night" for Russia and the company.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said the attacks had struck "major logistics facilities" that had been used to supply "sanctioned components for drone production and navigation equipment." He also confirmed strikes on targets in the Sea of Azov, the Black Sea, and Russian-annexed Crimea. Zelensky framed the operations as a response to "Russian strikes on our civilian infrastructure and on our cities and communities." Overnight into Wednesday, 14 people were killed in Russian attacks across Ukraine.
The scale of the assault was underscored by Moscow mayor Sergei Sobyanin, who said more than 370 drones were launched towards the Moscow region overnight, with 64 destroyed on approach to the capital. Regional authorities in Elektrostal reported that a kindergarten was damaged in the attack.
Wildberries, often described as the Russian equivalent of Amazon, was valued at about $12.6bn (£9.3bn) by Forbes Russia in 2026. The strikes come as US-led diplomatic efforts to end the fighting have stalled in recent months, with Washington shifting focus to its conflict with Iran.
