The official drummer at the Miami Marlins baseball game broke protocol last night, bellowing “Let's go England” to a stadium packed with Three Lions supporters who have launched a full-scale invasion of the city. Hundreds of England fans mixed with Norway fans at the game, creating a carnival atmosphere that even saw the Norwegians take part in their famous “row” with the Marlins mascots. “It was a lovely touch for the official drummer to chant ‘Let's go England’,” said Noah Sarles, 23, from Great Hallingbury, Essex, who was among the crowd. “There were quite a lot of England fans in the stadium. They appreciated it. And the Marlins won – let’s hope there’s a similar victory for England.” The party vibe extended across the city as both sets of fans happily mixed ahead of the World Cup quarter-final at Miami stadium tomorrow, where temperatures are expected to reach nearly 40 degrees at kick-off in a stadium without a roof. Thunderstorms are still predicted, and Fifa bosses are praying there won’t be a repeat of last weekend when the match against Mexico was forced to kick off an hour late. The Miami authorities have set up special hydration stations to ensure fans have access to water. Among those flying in were England superfan Gary Taylor, 64, and his girlfriend Jo Lewis, 44, who have been to every game so far after a few days relaxing in Cancun between the Mexico and Norway matches. “This is such a fantastic opportunity,” said Taylor. “Norway are a good side but playing them in a World Cup quarter-final instead of Brazil is a dream. Let’s hope we play well and win and get to the semi-final. Harry Kane versus Erling Haaland – the clash of two classic centre forwards.” David Beckham is in town and expected to attend the game. After the match, England will immediately fly back to their Kansas City base whether they win or lose. If defeated, they are set to fly back to London on Sunday.
