For 32 years, the relatives of those killed in the Mull of Kintyre Chinook helicopter crash have sought answers. On Tuesday, the High Court ruled they are too late.
The legal challenge, which sought to bring a claim against the Ministry of Defence over the 1994 disaster, was thrown out by a High Court judge. The crash of the RAF Chinook killed all 29 people on board, and the families have long pressed for disclosure of what went wrong.

But the judge ruled the claim could not proceed, effectively shutting the door on a judicial reckoning. The government department is continuing its long fight against disclosure, more than three decades after the crash.
For the bereaved families, the ruling marks the end of a decades-long quest to hold the MoD to account. The question of what caused the helicopter to go down on that remote Scottish hillside remains unresolved.
