Father and son banned from financial services after High Court fraud ruling

A father and son who worked at an insurance broker have been banned from UK financial services after the High Court found they engaged in fraud and misused client money.

Alec Finch and Robert Finch, who were employed at AFL Insurance Brokers, “failed to act with honesty and integrity”, the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) said. The regulator announced the ban on 23 July 2026, acting on the court’s judgement.

The FCA argued that the pair misused client money to fund AFL’s business expenses. The High Court’s ruling triggered the FCA’s decision to remove them from the industry.

“We will not tolerate serious misconduct and will take action to remove wrongdoers from the industry,” said the joint executive director of enforcement and market oversight at the FCA.

The ban applies to both men, barring them from holding any role in the UK financial services sector. The FCA did not specify the period of the ban or any previous sanctions imposed on the individuals or the firm.

AFL Insurance Brokers, the firm where the Finches worked, was not named as a party in the FCA’s statement beyond its association with the two men. It remains unclear whether the broker continues to operate or faces any further regulatory action.

The case underscores the FCA’s willingness to pursue individuals in senior roles who breach trust, particularly where client money is involved. The regulator’s swift response to the High Court’s findings signals its determination to enforce conduct rules in the insurance sector.
