Phil Foden has committed his future to Manchester City after signing a new four-year contract that runs until 2030, with an additional 12-month option. The 26-year-old midfielder, who has spent his entire senior career at the club, said: “Committing my future to City means everything to me. Playing for this club is all I’ve ever wanted to do.” Foden is relishing working again with new City head coach Enzo Maresca, who was Pep Guardiola’s assistant during the 2022-23 treble-winning season. “I can’t wait to work with Enzo again. He was brilliant during the treble season – someone all the players respected and loved working with,” Foden said. The England international has won 17 major honours with City, including six Premier League titles and one Champions League, making him the club’s most decorated player following the departures of John Stones and Bernardo Silva. Despite a recent dip in form — he was left out of Thomas Tuchel’s England World Cup squad in May after an inconsistent season — Foden is hopeful Maresca’s possession-based style will suit his game. “You can tell by the first few sessions I’ve done with him – the way he likes to play out from the back and play a lot of possession-based – it suits my game really well,” he said.
In other transfer news, Middlesbrough have confirmed the signing of Tottenham striker Will Lankshear on a five-year contract in a deal that could rise to a club-record £20m. The initial fee is understood to be around £10m, with an additional £10m in add-ons. The 21-year-old spent last season on loan at Oxford United, scoring 11 goals and providing four assists in 44 Championship games. Lankshear told the club website: “I feel like now is the best time in my career and I’m ready to hit the ground running and help this club. Middlesbrough is such a massive club. I deem it to be a Premier League club.” He is Middlesbrough’s fourth signing of the summer, following Myles Peart-Harris, Jeremy Sarmiento and Kyle Joseph. The deal comes after the exit of midfielder Hayden Hackney to Everton for around £16m.
“Foden signs new City deal until 2030; Lankshear joins Boro in potential £20m move.”
