Georgia Stanway returns to WSL with Arsenal after Bayern Munich trophy haul

Georgia Stanway is coming home to the Women’s Super League – and she has trophies in her sights. The 27-year-old England midfielder has signed for Arsenal on a free transfer after four years at Bayern Munich, where she won eight trophies including four consecutive Frauen-Bundesliga titles.

“It’s an unbelievable feeling and I’m so proud to be joining Arsenal,” Stanway said. “This is a massive club that is driving the women’s game forward to new levels and I want to be a part of it. I want to win trophies and grow as a player, and this is the right place to do that with the backing of an incredible fanbase.”

England midfielder Georgia Stanway joins Arsenal on a free transfer after winning eight trophies in four years at Bayern Munich.

Stanway, who has scored 33 goals in 93 appearances for England and was integral to both of the Lionesses’ historic European Championship triumphs in 2022 and 2025, made the decision to leave Bayern mid-season after telling the club she would not extend her contract. Her move to Arsenal brings her back to the league where she previously won the WSL title, three FA Cups and three League Cups with Manchester City.

Arsenal coach Renée Slegers called Stanway a “brilliant midfielder”, adding: “She will add a new dimension to our midfield, bringing experience and adding to our winning mentality. We look forward to getting down to work in pre-season ahead of a big campaign ahead.”

Clare Wheatley, Arsenal’s director of football, described Stanway as “among the best midfielders in the world with a proven track record of success at club and international level”. Stanway began her career at Blackburn before joining Manchester City in 2015, where she made 186 appearances and scored 67 goals over seven seasons. She also won two German Cups and two German Super Cups during her time in Bavaria.

Now, after helping Bayern to domestic dominance, she returns to the WSL aiming to add more silverware to an already decorated career.
