Gousto to close Lincolnshire warehouse, putting 290 jobs at risk

Two hundred and ninety jobs are to go after the meal-kit company Gousto announced the closure of its Lincolnshire warehouse, a move it blamed on the need to cut costs in a fiercely competitive market.

The company said it would shut its Clay Lake unit near Spalding and concentrate production at its heavily‑invested site in Warrington, Cheshire, where about 600 people already work. Running two warehouses was no longer efficient, Gousto said, and was leading to duplication.

“This is an incredibly difficult proposal given the impact on our colleagues in Clay Lake, who have contributed enormously to Gousto’s journey over a number of years,” said Timo Boldt, the company’s founder and chief executive. “In a highly competitive food market, it is however essential that we operate as efficiently as possible so that we can continue to invest in our proposition and keep prices as low as possible for customers.”

Boldt added that the company’s focus was “on supporting people through this process with care, respect and practical help.”

The BBC has contacted Gousto for further comment.
