Haaland double sends Norway past Brazil as England await in quarter-finals

Erling Haaland scored twice as Norway knocked five-time champions Brazil out of the 2026 World Cup to reach the quarter-finals. The double moved the striker level with Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappe in the race for the Golden Boot, piling pressure on England before their last-eight meeting.

England set up that quarter-final date with Norway by beating Mexico 2-3 in a breathless classic. Jude Bellingham scored two first-half goals to lead the Three Lions, who then had to battle altitude and a hostile crowd in Mexico's own backyard. But the victory came at a cost: Jordan Henderson was stretchered off after tripping over advertising hoardings during the celebrations. Bellingham later told fans back home to "text your bosses that you're not coming into work" and "pour another shot" after the historic win.

Norway now await England in the last eight, with Haaland in blistering form. The striker's brace against Brazil not only ended the five-time champions' campaign but also tied him with Messi and Mbappe at the top of the scoring charts. England will need to contain him if they are to progress further.
