Harry Kane has described playing golf with Donald Trump as a “surreal experience”, revealing the US president invited him for a round in Florida 18 months ago. The England captain, preparing to lead his team into a World Cup quarter-final against Norway in Miami on Saturday, said the game came about when he was in Palm Beach. “When the president invites you somewhere…” the Bayern Munich striker said, trailing off. “It was a pretty surreal experience just to meet him and obviously play golf with him.”
Kane, who has scored six goals and provided one assist at this World Cup, said Trump’s golf game impressed him. “His golf is pretty good, to be honest with you. I hope I can play golf as good as him when I’m his age, that’s for sure. A unique experience, but I was just grateful that he invited me to play.”
“Harry Kane says playing golf with Donald Trump was 'surreal' after the US president invited him in Florida.”
The 31-year-old also noted that he “played alright” during the round. Trump, 80, later returned the compliment, calling Kane “a great player” and “a good golfer too”. The US co-hosts the 2026 World Cup alongside Canada and Mexico, adding a layer of diplomatic intrigue to Kane’s tête-à-tête with the 45th president. For now, though, Kane’s focus is on Norway and the heat of Miami’s open-air stadium. Whether his golf swing will be as sharp as his finishing remains to be seen.
