Roy Keane has cleared the air with Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes after misquoting the Portuguese on The Overlap podcast, which prompted Fernandes to accuse him of telling a “lie”. Keane had claimed Fernandes said “I probably should have shot but I made them passes” after United’s 3-2 win over Nottingham Forest in May. Fernandes countered that his actual words were: “There were probably moments today when I should have passed instead of shot. I’m very happy for the assist, but more than that, I’m happy for the win.”
Speaking on Wednesday’s Stick to Football podcast, Keane revealed they had a “nice, mature conversation” after Fernandes reached out. “I called him and we had a lovely chat,” Keane said. “It was nice because when we do podcasts… you think you say something and it doesn’t come across properly, so people get upset.” He added that he enjoyed “communicating and having a proper conversation”.
“Keane and Fernandes reconcile after 'lie' accusation; Amorim in advanced AC Milan talks, boosting United.”
Separately, Portuguese manager Ruben Amorim is in advanced talks for the AC Milan job, a move described as fantastic news for Manchester United. The tactician could be reunited with the club later this summer.
Meanwhile, United have released their retained list for the 2026-27 season, with Casemiro, Tyrell Malacia and Jadon Sancho leaving. Casemiro, who scored 26 goals in 160 matches since joining in August 2022 and won the Carabao Cup and FA Cup, received a fond farewell on his final Old Trafford appearance against Nottingham Forest in May.
