Sir Kenny Dalglish back on golf course weeks after revealing cancer diagnosis

Sir Kenny Dalglish was back on the links at the Genesis Scottish Open’s pro-am event at the Renaissance Club near North Berwick, just weeks after revealing his cancer battle. The 75-year-old football legend, who played for Celtic, Liverpool and Scotland, teamed up with Bournemouth’s Ryan Christie, 31, and professionals Shane Lowry, 39, and Tyrrell Hatton, 34 – both of whom secured crucial points for Europe in last year’s Ryder Cup triumph. The all-star fourball came within one shot of winning the 18-hole competition, with Sir Kenny holing putts from all sorts of distances. Christie, a member at the Renaissance Club, said: “I think the coolest thing was that I’d watched these guys on TV then here I was watching them live and having a game with them. … Kenny was good. He’s pretty hot with the putter, so he held his own. He still has his competitive edge.” Sir Kenny later posed for a photo with Christie, Lowry, former Celtic captain Scott Brown, 41, and retired curler Eve Muirhead, 36, who won gold at the 2022 Winter Olympics. The group smiled as Muirhead held the King’s Baton ahead of the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, due to start in two weeks. An onlooker said: “It was great to see Sir Kenny looking so well and obviously having a lot of fun during what must have been a very difficult time for him and his family. … He was the star attraction, especially in his Saltire-themed jumper.” Last month, football stars rushed to support the icon after he accidentally shared his diagnosis in a social media blunder, later joking about the slip-up on Instagram.
