Leeds break record for Muharemovic as Bournemouth loan out Jimenez

Leeds United have signed Bosnia-Herzegovina international Tarik Muharemovic from Sassuolo for £34.1m, the club’s second signing of the summer after Harry Wilson’s free transfer from Fulham. The 23-year-old defender, who replaces Pascal Struijk after his £20m move to Brighton in June, has signed a five-year deal at Elland Road. “I will give everything for this club. I will give everything, every game,” he said. “I just want to win. I hate to lose and I will fight for every ball, even if it is my head or my feet, I am going.”

Muharemovic made three appearances for Bosnia at the World Cup, including in the last-32 defeat by co-hosts the United States. In that match he was fouled by Folarin Balogun, who was sent off — though the suspension was later waived by Fifa after an intervention from US President Donald Trump and White House officials. Born in Ljubljana, Muharemovic began his career at Wolfsberger in Austria before joining Juventus, where he did not play a first-team game. After a successful loan at Sassuolo, he was sold permanently in 2025. Juventus are reportedly set to receive 50% of the fee due to a clause in the sale.

Meanwhile, Bournemouth’s Spanish defender Alex Jimenez has joined Fiorentina on a season-long loan with a €20m (£17m) option to buy. The 21-year-old was dropped from Bournemouth’s first team in May after what the club called a “serious matter” relating to “posts circulating on social media”. He initially joined from AC Milan on loan before signing permanently in February on a deal until 2031. Jimenez made 32 appearances last season, scoring once — in a 3-2 home win over Liverpool. “The club wishes Alex well for the season ahead as he links up with Fiorentina,” the Cherries said. The move allows Jimenez to continue playing while Bournemouth’s investigation into the allegations continues.
