Liam Rosenior back in management with Paris FC after Chelsea sacking

Liam Rosenior lasted less than four months at Chelsea, losing each of his final five Premier League matches without Chelsea scoring a single goal. That run – the club's worst winless and goalless league streak in 114 years – cost him his job in April. But less than three months later, the 41-year-old is back in management, appointed Paris FC manager on a two-year contract with an option for a further season.

Paris FC, who finished 11th in Ligue 1 last season in their first top-flight campaign in 46 years, have turned to Rosenior after sacking Antoine Kombouare. The club, owned by the Arnault family with Red Bull as a minority shareholder, said Rosenior was appointed because of his "wealth of experience at the highest level", his ability to nurture young talent and his commitment to "attractive and attacking football".

Sporting director Marco Neppe added: "Liam Rosenior brings together all the qualities we were looking for. He is a modern, demanding coach and recognised for his ability to help both the players and the team progress. Beyond his tactical skills, we were particularly attracted by his management qualities and his ability to unite a group around a clear vision."

Rosenior's reputation was forged at Chelsea's sister club Strasbourg, where he led them to seventh in 2024-25 and qualification for the Uefa Conference League with the youngest squad across Europe's top five leagues. He began his coaching career at Brighton's Under-23s, served as Wayne Rooney's assistant at Derby County, and later took Hull City to seventh in the Championship before being sacked for missing the play-offs.

At Chelsea, he replaced Enzo Maresca in January after Maresca's disagreement with the club hierarchy. Maresca has since been named as Pep Guardiola's successor at Manchester City. Chelsea have replaced Rosenior with former Real Madrid and Bayer Leverkusen manager Xabi Alonso – the sixth permanent manager at Stamford Bridge in four years under BlueCo ownership.

Rosenior now faces the challenge of building on Paris FC's return to Ligue 1, with the club's ambition clear. His ability to develop young talent and play attacking football will be tested as he seeks to reignite a managerial career that was firmly on the rise at Strasbourg.
