Liverpool’s Salah still without a club as World Cup stars line up summer moves

Mohamed Salah has left Liverpool but remains without a club, while Sporting Kansas City’s president of soccer operations, David Lee, has refused to rule out a move for the Egyptian. “I’m not going to share anything on individual players,” Lee said in a press conference this week. “We are interested in really good players. So anyone we think can be a fit for us … we have an interest in.” Salah’s departure is one of several at Anfield this summer. Andy Robertson joined Tottenham after his contract expired, and Ibrahima Konate’s deal also wound down, leading him to Real Madrid. New manager Andoni Iraola, who replaced Arne Slot after a lacklustre title defence, has brought in Spanish winger and World Cup finalist Victor Munoz from Osasuna, while Jeremy Jacquet arrived from Rennes in a £60m deal sealed in January. Meanwhile, Yasser Larouci, who made his Liverpool debut under Jurgen Klopp in 2020, has signed for Le Mans after his Troyes deal expired. The French side were promoted to Ligue 1 last season, and Larouci becomes their third summer signing.

Across the Premier League, attention is also turning to World Cup stars who could move. France’s Bradley Barcola, 23, has appeared in all seven of Les Bleus’ matches, scoring twice, and won a second successive Champions League title with PSG. However, he is often back-up to Khvicha Kvaratskhelia at PSG, prompting interest from Liverpool and Arsenal, who consider him an alternative to Morgan Rogers. Morocco’s Ayyoub Bouaddi, 18, became the second-youngest player ever to play a World Cup quarter-final, impressing in a draw with Brazil where he outshone Casemiro and Bruno Guimaraes. Lille are expected to fend off offers from Chelsea, Manchester City, Arsenal, Real Madrid, Barcelona and PSG. Ivory Coast’s Yan Diomande, 19, shone in the group stage before his team lost to Norway in the last 32. The winger is one of several rising stars whose World Cup performances could accelerate a summer move.
