Man United make contact for Joao Gomes as Arsenal agree Guimaraes deal

Manchester United have made contact over a possible deal for Wolves midfielder Joao Gomes, but face competition from Liverpool, as the club yet to make a signing this summer chase a midfield addition after the proposed move for Ederson fell through.

The Reds, managed by Andoni Iraola, are looking to be active in the window and have also been linked with Paris Saint-Germain winger Bradley Barcola, though Arsenal are showing an interest in the French forward too. Arsenal, meanwhile, have agreed a deal for Newcastle's Bruno Guimaraes, according to reports, as the summer window heats up.

In other moves, Manchester City confirmed the signing of 17-year-old winger Jeremy Monga from Leicester City on Saturday, with a long-term deal at the Etihad. The agreement sees City pay an initial £10 million, with a further £2.5 million in add-ons. Monga, who looked set to join Arsenal earlier in the summer before City swooped, took to social media with an emotional goodbye to Leicester. "A new chapter begins. Grateful for the journey so far — now it's time to get to work. Thank you for the support," he wrote.

Arsenal are also considering re-signing defender Dino Mavronpanos after the Greek international suffered relegation with West Ham last season. Mavronpanos, who joined Arsenal in January 2018 but spent most of his time on loan, moved permanently to Stuttgart in 2023 before returning to the Premier League with West Ham a year later. He is expected to leave the London Stadium this summer, with Sky Sports reporting Arsenal among the sides interested.

As Premier League clubs return for pre-season, managers are using training to assess squads and plan incomings and outgoings. With Manchester United yet to open their account and Liverpool and Arsenal circling, the next few days promise more twists.
