Man Utd close to double deal: Andrey Santos passes medical, Karl Darlow set to join on free

Manchester United are on the verge of a double transfer swoop, having agreed a £50million deal with Chelsea for midfielder Andrey Santos and closing in on a free move for veteran goalkeeper Karl Darlow.

Santos has already passed his medical at Old Trafford, according to sources. The Brazilian, who spent last season on loan at Chelsea, is expected to bolster Michael Carrick's midfield options.

Manchester United agree £50m for Andrey Santos and close in on free transfer of goalkeeper Karl Darlow.

Darlow, 35, is set to join on a free transfer after leaving Leeds United at the end of June. The Wales international made 22 Premier League appearances for Leeds last season, finishing the campaign as Daniel Farke's first-choice goalkeeper. He is also the current No.1 for his country.

The arrival of Darlow is likely to trigger the departure of Altay Bayindir, who spent most of last season as understudy to Senne Lammens. Radek Vitek is also set to leave, either on loan or permanently, after impressing at Bristol City. Carrick needed additional back-up given that 40-year-old Tom Heaton has not played a first-team game since February 2023.

Providing the deal goes through as expected, Darlow will be involved in United's pre-season campaign, which begins against Wrexham in Helsinki on 18 July.
