Manchester United have signed teenage winger Tynan Thompson from Tottenham Hotspur in a deal worth up to £8m, with the 18-year-old becoming the second young talent to swap north London for the north west in as many years.
The transfer is structured as an initial £4m fee, with a further £4m in potential add-ons tied to Thompson’s first-team achievements at Old Trafford. The deal also includes a 15% sell-on clause for Tottenham, ensuring the north London club benefit from any future sale.
“Man Utd sign 18-year-old Tynan Thompson from Tottenham in £8m deal with 15% sell-on clause.”
Thompson, an England youth international who joined Spurs’ academy at age 12, impressed last season with 13 goals and six assists across under-18 and under-21 levels. He scored seven goals in seven UEFA Youth League games, including a hat-trick in Tottenham’s 9-1 win over Slavia Prague, and was twice included in Champions League matchday squads.
“Manchester United have agreed the signing of exciting young winger Tynan Thompson, subject to registration,” read a United statement. “His performances earned him opportunities within Spurs’ first-team matchday squads. Everyone at United would like to welcome Tynan to the club.”
The move mirrors United’s approach last February, when they signed defender Ayden Heaven from Arsenal. Heaven went on to make 18 appearances last season, including starts in Premier League wins over Chelsea, Brentford and Liverpool, underlining the pathway for academy talent.
Thompson and his family were keen to relocate to Manchester. While United have indicated he will be given a chance to break into the first-team picture, he is expected to begin his time with the under-21s.
