Arsenal eye Mason Greenwood as Tottenham rule out move for Marseille striker

Arsenal have been credited with an interest in signing Mason Greenwood, according to French outlet L’Equipe, as Mikel Arteta looks to bolster his attacking options ahead of defending the Premier League title. The 24-year-old striker, who remains under contract with Marseille until 2029, could be sold this summer as the French club reportedly seeks to comply with Financial Fair Play rules, with a fee of around €80m (£69.3m) mentioned.

Greenwood’s potential return to English football has also linked him with Tottenham, but Mirror Football understands that Spurs have “zero interest” in reuniting him with new manager Roberto De Zerbi. De Zerbi, who faced backlash from Tottenham supporters after comments he made about Greenwood during his time at Marseille, previously said: “All I can see is that Mason seems a good lad, he paid in a strong way for what happened. He has probably here found the right environment for him.”

Greenwood was charged with attempted rape and controlling and coercive behaviour before those charges were dropped. De Zerbi later addressed the fan reaction, saying: “I wasn’t surprised. I was a bit sad and sorry it happened because I’m sorry if somebody took offence. I must repeat what I said. This topic is very close to me… I have always been against - always - any type of violence, especially against women.”

Italian side Roma are also among the suitors, but Arsenal appear to be the leading Premier League candidate. Greenwood began his career at Manchester United, scoring 35 goals in 129 appearances before a loan at Getafe and subsequent move to Marseille.
