A major search is under way for a man who went missing at a lake in Snowdonia — the same stretch of water where a 21-year-old’s body was recovered just 11 days ago.
Emergency services were called to Llyn Geirionydd, a 45-acre lake on the lower slopes of the Carneddau mountains, at approximately 7.10pm on Sunday. Despite searches that continued through the night, North Wales Police said the man has yet to be found. His family has been notified and is being supported.

Locals reported seeing a police helicopter circling the lake at around 8pm. One witness described a “significant emergency response”, while another said police divers were at the scene. The force has confirmed an “increased emergency service presence” as the hunt enters a second day.
The lake, near Trefriw, is popular with watersports enthusiasts. It draws kayakers and is the only lake within Eryri National Park where speedboats are permitted. But its beauty belies a recent tragedy: the body of a 21-year-old man was recovered from the same lake on 9 July, 11 days before the current disappearance.
North Wales Police urged the public to stay away from the area to allow emergency services to work. A spokesperson said: “We ask members of the public to avoid the area today to allow emergency services to continue their work. Anybody who was at the lake yesterday evening who hasn’t already spoken to police should contact us.”
The identity of the missing man has not been released. The search continues.
