Nathan Ake has ended his six-year stay at Manchester City, joining Turkish side Fenerbahce in a deal that could reach £8.5m. The Netherlands defender, 31, departs with a record of four Premier League titles, two FA Cups, two League Cups and a Champions League — but leaves behind a club where his playing time had dwindled to just six Premier League starts last season.
Fenerbahce have paid around £7m up front, with the rest coming in add-ons. Ake, who cost City £40m from Bournemouth in 2020, made 177 appearances for the club. His final season under Pep Guardiola saw him start only 17 games across all competitions. With one year left on his contract, the move was widely expected.
“Nathan Ake joins Fenerbahce from Manchester City for up to £8.5m after six trophy-laden years.”
"It's been a privilege to represent Manchester City over the past six years," Ake said. "I'll always cherish the memories, particularly of winning the Treble, being part of all four Premier League titles in a side that made history and triumphing in the Carabao Cup and FA Cup in my final season at the club."
Ake made three appearances for the Netherlands at the 2026 World Cup before their elimination by Morocco in the last 32. His departure is part of a busy summer transfer window across the Premier League.
Tottenham have spent £185m to sign Sandro Tonali and Mateus Fernandes, while Manchester United are reported to be interested in Borussia Dortmund midfielder Felix Nmecha. Arsenal could take advantage of Aston Villa's financial situation to target Morgan Rogers and Ezri Konsa, with Leandro Trossard seemingly on his way out. Chelsea are close to making Tyrique George's loan to Everton permanent. Liverpool have shifted focus to Paris Saint-Germain's Bradley Barcola, and Callum Wilson is set to join Brentford on a free transfer.
The window is only just getting started, but City have already lost a stalwart of their most successful era.
