Newcastle reject £80m Tottenham bid for Sandro Tonali as Liverpool also snub Inter offer for Jones

Newcastle United have rejected an £80million bid from Tottenham Hotspur for midfielder Sandro Tonali – a move that has also attracted interest from Arsenal and Manchester City. The offer, which Spurs had hoped would be enough to prise the Italian away from St James' Park, was turned down, according to sources close to the negotiations.

Tottenham have since opened talks with Newcastle over a potential deal, but the Magpies' resistance suggests any transfer will require a significant increase on their initial proposal. Arsenal and Manchester City are monitoring the situation, while Manchester United have been handed a fresh update on Tonali's availability as they finalise a £35m move for Ederson, which is 'almost sorted'.

Liverpool, meanwhile, have rejected a bid from Inter Milan for Curtis Jones that they considered 'frustrating'. The Serie A side offered £21m for the midfielder, a figure the Reds dismissed out of hand. With Jones' contract entering its final year, Liverpool are prepared to let him leave on a free transfer next summer rather than accept an underwhelming fee.

The Anfield club are also ready to test the resolve of Sporting CP with a second bid for Yan Diomande, the Ivory Coast international who has impressed at the World Cup. Manchester United have been encouraged to hijack Liverpool's pursuit of the defender.

Arsenal are stepping up their approach for Aston Villa's Morgan Rogers, with Ollie Watkins telling his England teammate he can 'go to the very top' after the World Cup. The Gunners have also been linked with a move for Crysencio Summerville, but have received a setback in their pursuit of another target.

Tottenham retain an interest in Liverpool forward Cody Gakpo and are preparing a bid after the Dutchman's three-goal contribution in a 5-1 thrashing of Sweden. Spurs have also made a decision on Lucas Bergvall, though the details remain unclear.

Manchester United, having secured Ederson, are expected to target another central midfielder, with Tonali emerging as a prime candidate. The Red Devils are also eyeing a World Cup standout as they reshape their squad.
