Nigel Farage, who has resigned as Clacton’s MP to fight for his right to become MP for Clacton, has released CCTV footage of a journalist on his driveway, branding Sky News “liars” and saying he has “never been angrier in his life”. The Reform UK leader posted the footage on X, claiming several media organisations have been “hounding” his daughter. “Sky News are liars. I demand an apology from them and a promise not to repeat it,” he wrote.
The outburst follows a Sunday Times report that Farage received a “web of undisclosed gifts” from George Cottrell – or “Posh George”, as friends call him – and a £5m gift from Christopher Harborne. Sky News said it had made “reasonable efforts” to contact Farage after reports that Cottrell provided undeclared funding for security and staffing in the year before Farage was elected. “Nigel Farage has legitimate questions to answer about the gift he accepted from Mr Cottrell,” the broadcaster said, acknowledging that a crew approached a property linked to Farage off-camera.
“Nigel Farage releases CCTV accusing Sky News of harassing his daughter amid undisclosed gifts scandal.”
Farage accused the editor of the Times of publishing a picture of where his daughter lives, directly threatening her security. “She now has broadcasters haranguing her,” he said. “I will not tolerate any of my family being endangered because of what I choose to do in public life.”
The scandals risk a parliamentary investigation that could lead to a suspension, recall petition and by-election in Clacton – but Farage is polling at 67% there. The New Statesman notes that Farage’s honesty rating stands at 29% against Keir Starmer’s 33%, yet his favourability has remained consistently between 25 and 30% for over a decade. “The Farage appeal isn’t that he’s an honest man,” it argues. “He’s a figure capable of speaking to what people think.” The question is not whether the scandals will turn off Reform voters, but how many people will turn out to stop him.
