Paul Pelosi, the 86-year-old husband of former US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, has been charged with a misdemeanor hit-and-run over a collision with a parked car in California’s wine country. The charge, filed on Friday, stems from an incident on July 3 when Pelosi was driving his brown convertible in Yountville, Napa County. According to the Napa County Sheriff’s Office, he struck a legally parked car on the side of the road, briefly stopped and then allegedly drove away. The parked car was unoccupied and no injuries were reported. Authorities said Pelosi did not have any alcohol in his system. Under state law, drivers involved in accidents resulting in property damage must stop and provide their vehicle and license information. Pelosi was charged with a misdemeanor violation of that law, as well as an infraction for making an unlawful turn, Napa County prosecutors said. No attorney for Paul Pelosi was listed in court records, and Nancy Pelosi’s press office did not immediately respond to a request for comment. The case is set for a court appearance on August 14. The charge follows a previous incident in 2022, when Pelosi pleaded guilty to misdemeanor driving under the influence in Napa County and was sentenced to five days in jail and three years of probation. He served two days in jail and received good conduct credit for two other days, leaving one day to serve in a work program at the courthouse. As part of his probation, he was required to pay thousands in fines and victim restitution, attend a three-month drinking driver class, and install an ignition interlock device in his vehicle. That same year, Pelosi was attacked and severely beaten with a hammer at the couple’s San Francisco home. The latest charge adds to a string of legal troubles for the husband of the prominent Democrat, though it remains to be seen whether it will affect his probation or lead to further penalties.
