Planet Labs, the Earth observation company, has opened a new office in central London, growing its UK team to more than 30 staff as it deepens ties with the government and space sector.
The company – which provides daily data and insights about change on Earth – said the team now includes members of its global leadership, along with engineering, sales, customer support, government affairs and marketing roles. The expansion, announced on 20 July 2026, marks a further push into the UK market and comes as the government seeks to position the country as a leader in AI and data science.

“We look forward to continuing working closely with the UK Government and the ecosystem of partners across the country to expand adoption of Earth Observation capabilities across all sectors of the economy, and strengthening the UK’s global leadership in AI and data science,” Planet said in a statement.
Space Minister Liz Lloyd welcomed the move. “Planet’s decision to open a London office is a powerful vote of confidence in the UK’s world-leading science and technology ecosystem,” she said. “By bringing highly-skilled jobs in AI, data science and space here, Planet is playing a vital role in cementing the UK’s status as a global science and technology superpower.”
