The English transfer record has been shattered this summer as Chelsea splashed £117m to sign Morgan Rogers from Aston Villa, the headline deal in a frenetic window that has reshaped the Premier League. The move, which eclipsed all previous domestic benchmarks, was one of several blockbuster transactions as clubs jostled to strengthen before the new season.
Manchester City responded by landing Elliot Anderson, while Villa themselves reinvested part of the Rogers windfall by bringing in Johan Manzambi from Freiburg for £51m and João Gomes from Wolves for £34m. The Midlands club also saw Youri Tielemans depart to Manchester United for £35m, and Donyell Malen left for Roma for £21.6m.
“Morgan Rogers's £117m move to Chelsea broke the English transfer record as clubs spent heavily in the summer 2026 window.”
Arsenal, the reigning champions, shifted focus after Leandro Trossard’s departure to Besiktas for £15.3m, signing Christos Tzolis from Club Brugge for £34m. The Greek winger scored 33 league goals in his last two seasons and strengthens Mikel Arteta’s options out wide. The Gunners also secured Piero Hincapié from Bayer Leverkusen for £45m after a loan, while Jakub Kiwior moved to Porto for £14.5m. Arteta, however, remains in the market for Alex Scott after missing out on Rogers, and defensive cover is a priority following William Saliba’s World Cup injury.
Aston Villa’s business is far from done. Alejandro Garnacho is primed to swap places with Rogers, and there is still scope for Emiliano Martínez to leave, which would force a move for a goalkeeper. Arsenal’s interest in Ezri Konsa persists, and striker is an area of uncertainty—Nicolas Jackson is an option, especially if Fenerbahce pursue Ollie Watkins. A left-back is needed to replace the departing Lucas Digne, while Leon Bailey is available and could head to Hull.
Bournemouth have been active too, selling Luis Sinisterra to Cruzeiro for £5.2m and Marcos Senesi to Tottenham on a free, while bringing in Álvaro Rodríguez from Elche for £21.4m. The club’s first Europa League campaign demands a robust squad, and they are lining up Benfica’s António Silva to replace Senesi, with a right-back search ongoing.
With the window still open, several clubs face crucial decisions—Arsenal chasing Scott, Villa balancing exits and replacements, and Bournemouth preparing for European football. The record fee for Rogers has set the tone, but the summer’s final moves could yet redefine the Premier League landscape.
