Prince George kept his sister Charlotte entertained with cheeky antics as the royal siblings donned designer sunglasses for a day out at the Wimbledon men's final on Sunday – while their younger brother Louis stayed at home.
The Prince and Princess of Wales brought their two eldest children to Centre Court to watch Italy's Jannik Sinner retain his title, beating Germany's Alexander Zverev. The family arrived together but were greeted by a line-up of guests before taking their seats in the royal box, including British semi-finalist Arthur Fery, who turned 24 that day.
“Prince George and Princess Charlotte joined parents at Wimbledon as Kate presented trophy to Jannik Sinner.”
Fery, who had been congratulated by William and Kate on his run to the semi-finals, said he told the princess: 'If her kids ever wanted to hit, I’m free. It would be good to see them again.' He added: 'I know the whole family are all tennis fans.'
During the match, George was seen wearing sunglasses and a hat to shield himself from the blistering sun, using a hand-held fan to keep cool. Charlotte chatted animatedly with her mother, who appeared to be explaining rules or tactics as she pointed to the court.
After Sinner's victory, Kate – patron of the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club – presented the trophy and told the champion: 'You’ve had such a fantastic tournament so really, really well done. Hope you get a good break after this.' She added: 'It’s really inspiring for the children to see tennis at that level.'
Sinner later spoke to the young royals, asking George if he was still playing tennis. The 12-year-old replied: 'Yeah, very much so.' The outing marked another public appearance for the princess, who has long been a regular at the Wimbledon finals.
