Manchester United striker Benjamin Sesko is on course to be fit for the start of the Premier League season after a shin injury sidelined him for the opening pre-season friendlies. The Slovenian missed games against Wrexham and Rosenborg as he completed a rehabilitation program, having aggravated the injury in the win over Liverpool in early May. That forced him to sit out the last three matches of the previous campaign, but recovery is now progressing to plan.
Sesko began outdoor training last week, according to The Sun, and has a chance of featuring against Atletico Madrid in Stockholm on Saturday. The 22-year-old was never scheduled to play in the first two friendlies, with the club managing his fitness carefully. He is likely to start against PSG in Gothenburg on August 8 before the entire United squad travels to Dublin for a six-day training camp. The Red Devils then face Leeds at Croke Park on August 12, building up to their Premier League opener against Hull City on August 22.
“Benjamin Sesko on track for Man United's Premier League opener after shin injury recovery.”
Sesko’s return will be a major boost for manager Michael Carrick, who is preparing for his first full season in charge after a stellar interim spell. The striker’s 12 goals proved crucial to United’s run of 12 wins in 17 games, including memorable strikes off the bench: the winner against Fulham, a stoppage-time leveller at West Ham, and further goals in victories over Everton, Crystal Palace, Brentford and Liverpool. His absence has given Joshua Zirkzee game time, but United prefer to sell the Dutchman, who has struggled since his signing by Erik ten Hag.
With Sesko’s rehabilitation on track, Carrick can plan for a fully fit frontline when the Premier League season kicks off — a prospect that could define United’s ambitions after their late-season surge.
