Tottenham have confirmed the signing of Marcos Senesi on a free transfer, with the 29-year-old Argentina international set to officially join on 1 July after rejecting three contract offers from Bournemouth.
Senesi, capped three times by Argentina but omitted from this summer's World Cup squad, described it as a "very special feeling" to join the 2025 Europa League winners. "From the first moment, the club has shown why they want me and how much they want me to be a part of what they are building," he said. "Every time I step on the pitch, I will do my best to make the fans proud and to take the club back to the place it belongs."
“Tottenham sign Marcos Senesi on a free transfer; Jan Paul van Hecke also targeted.”
The centre-back becomes Tottenham's second summer signing after Andy Robertson arrived on a free transfer from Liverpool. Manager Roberto de Zerbi, whose side finished 17th in the Premier League in back-to-back seasons, said Senesi will "strengthen" his defence. "He's comfortable playing in a possession-based team, reads the game very well and has the personality to thrive in a demanding environment," the Italian added.
Senesi will wear the number five shirt, while Wales defender Ben Davies, 33, has agreed a new one-year contract to stay. Tottenham have also announced that out-of-contract midfielder Yves Bissouma, 29, will leave this summer after making 90 Premier League appearances since his £30m move from Brighton in 2022.
Meanwhile, Spurs remain in the market for defensive reinforcements. Sources indicate the club have seen two offers rejected for Netherlands international Jan Paul van Hecke, with a fresh £30m twist emerging in the pursuit of the Brighton defender. Van Hecke has since revealed "clarity" over his future, though Tottenham believe they may have an ace card to play in negotiations.
