Teenage girl dies at North Wales music festival as organisers cancel event

At 1.45am on Saturday morning, emergency services raced to Tonnau Festival on the Carreglwyd Estate near Llanfaethlu in North Wales after reports of a teenager suffering a severe medical emergency. Despite the best efforts of paramedics and on-site medical staff, the 18-year-old woman later died in hospital.

Festival organisers released a statement saying they were “deeply saddened” and confirmed the attendee’s death. “From the moment the attendee became unwell, our on-site welfare teams, security, and emergency medical staff responded immediately,” they said. “Paramedics and welfare personnel did everything they could to provide emergency care, but unfortunately they later died in hospital.”

Following the tragedy, organisers made the decision to close the remainder of the festival and asked attendees to “vacate the site when it is safe for them to do so”. They added: “We are cooperating fully with the ongoing investigation.”

North Wales Police confirmed the death and said it was being treated as unexpected. Detective Inspector Iolo Edwards said: “Our thoughts remain with the woman’s family and loved ones at this difficult time. We urge members of the public not to speculate on the circumstances of the death.”

The coroner has been informed. Out of respect for the family’s privacy, festival organisers said they would make no further comment. The investigation continues.
