Antonin Kinsky has signed an improved contract with Tottenham Hotspur after a rollercoaster first full season at the club that saw him hauled off 17 minutes into a Champions League tie and then resurrect his career under new manager Roberto de Zerbi.
The 23-year-old Czech goalkeeper was substituted by interim boss Igor Tudor after conceding three goals in the first 17 minutes of Spurs' last-16 tie at Atletico Madrid in March – a moment that former Premier League goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel said 'has completely destroyed his career'. 'When his name is mentioned in the future, the whole football world will remember this moment,' Schmeichel told CBS Sports.
“Antonin Kinsky signs improved Tottenham contract after rollercoaster season; Spurs also agree £85m Mateus Fernandes deal.”
But after De Zerbi replaced Tudor, Kinsky started the final seven Premier League games of the season, helping Spurs avoid relegation. 'It's been a real journey to get here and a nice story already, and I'm looking forward to what lies ahead over the next months and years,' Kinsky said.
De Zerbi was equally effusive: 'Toni was outstanding over the final seven games of the season and a key part of what we achieved in that period. He has earned this new contract, not only with his performances but also his professionalism and desire to improve. We have huge belief in what Toni can become.'
Tottenham signed Kinsky from Slavia Prague for around £12.5m in January 2025 on a contract running to 2031. The club has not disclosed the length or terms of the new deal.
Kinsky could now start next season as first choice, with Guglielmo Vicario – who replaced him against Atletico – linked with a return to Italy and Inter Milan.
Meanwhile, Tottenham have been the most active Premier League club in the transfer window, having agreed an £85m deal with West Ham United for Portugal international Mateus Fernandes. Fernandes is expected to become Spurs' fifth signing of the summer, following the arrivals of Jan Paul van Hecke from Brighton for £52m, and free transfers Andy Robertson, Marcos Senesi and Martin Dubravka.
West Ham have given Fernandes permission to undergo a medical, according to Fabrizio Romano, with the north London club outbidding Manchester United for the midfielder.
