Tottenham goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky signs new contract after remarkable resurgence

Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky has signed an improved contract with the club, capping a remarkable turnaround for the 23-year-old after a season that nearly destroyed his career.

Kinsky, signed from Slavia Prague for about £12.5m in January 2025, endured a nightmare Champions League last-16 tie at Atletico Madrid in March. Substituted just 17 minutes in after conceding three goals, he made two bad errors as the Spanish side romped to a 5-2 win. Interim manager Igor Tudor hauled him off for Guglielmo Vicario.

“Tudor has completely destroyed his career,” former Premier League goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel told CBS Sports at the time. “When his name is mentioned in the future, the whole football world will remember this moment.”

But after Roberto De Zerbi took over as Spurs manager, Kinsky was reinstated as first choice. He played the final seven games of the Premier League season, helping Tottenham avoid relegation. The Czech goalkeeper said: “It’s been a real journey to get here and a nice story already, and I’m looking forward to what lies ahead over the next months and years.”

De Zerbi said: “Toni was outstanding over the final seven games of the season and a key part of what we achieved in that period. He has earned this new contract, not only with his performances but also his professionalism and desire to improve. We have huge belief in what Toni can become. He is still young, has enormous potential and I know that Spurs is the perfect place for him to continue to develop into one of the best goalkeepers in Europe.”

Tottenham have not revealed the length or terms of Kinsky's new deal. His previous contract ran until 2031. With Vicario linked with a return to Italy and Inter Milan, Kinsky could now start the new season as first choice.
