Rob Edwards has been sacked as Wolves head coach after just seven months, following the club's relegation from the Premier League. In his last interview before the axe fell, Edwards told BBC Sport he was looking forward to a "fresh start" with the club over the summer. But that summer rebuild will now be led by someone else, as Wolves move on from a dismal season that ended in relegation.
Elsewhere, a dramatic transfer twist is unfolding at Leicester City. Manchester City are reportedly set to pip Arsenal to the signing of teenage attacker Jeremy Monga, after the Gunners decided against a move. Arsenal had been pushing to sign the 16-year-old, who has featured in both the Premier League and Championship. Colleagues at football.london understand a deal between £10m and £15m was discussed, with consideration given to whether a season in League One would be better for his development than another year in academy football. But that move now looks off, with BBC Sport claiming City have entered the race. Enquiries have been made in recent days, and the Athletic reports that Arsenal dropped out due to the valuation being too high.
“Rob Edwards sacked after Wolves relegation; Man City hijack Arsenal's £10-15m move for Leicester teen Jeremy Monga.”
Monga made his Premier League debut in the 2024/25 season as a 15-year-old for Leicester, coming off the bench in a 3-0 defeat against Newcastle United on April 7, 2025. He made seven league appearances between April and the end of that season. Despite Leicester's relegation to the Championship, the Foxes managed to see off interest from clubs last summer. Monga signed an academy scholarship when he turned 16, and that deal is due to turn professional this summer on his 17th birthday, July 10. While a fee with Leicester could be agreed, there is also the possibility of a tribunal to decide if whichever club signs him has paid a fair price.
The forward became the second-youngest player to make a Premier League appearance, but has since been knocked into third place by Arsenal's Max Dowman. During the 2025/26 campaign, Monga made 30 appearances in all competitions and became the Championship's youngest-ever goalscorer when netting against Preston North End in August. He has recently been on international duty with England's Under-18 side, scoring the decisive goal in a 2-1 win over Greece Under-19s and also getting on the scoresheet in a 6-1 win over Cyprus. City's move now leaves Leicester facing the prospect of losing their brightest young talent without a Premiership future.
