Woman, 24, killed and man injured in west London double stabbing as neighbour recalls child hearing tapping at window

A 24-year-old woman has been stabbed to death and a man left injured on a street in west London, after a neighbour’s child reported hearing someone tapping on a bedroom window in the early hours.

Police were called to Uxbridge Road in Hayes at around 7.55am on Sunday, where they found the woman with fatal stab wounds. She was pronounced dead at the scene. A man in his twenties was also found outside with stab wounds and taken to hospital.

Officers “quickly” located a 44-year-old man nearby who matched the description of the suspect, the Met said. He had injuries believed to have been caused after jumping from a window and was taken to hospital. He has been arrested on suspicion of murder and possession of a knife in a public place.

Jax Porter, 41, a mother-of-two who lives nearby, told Metro that her son had woken her to say there was shouting and someone tapping on his bedroom window at around 4.30am or 5am. “There was a lot of shouting and screams, and then the helicopter was flying over,” she said.

Porter added: “I don’t know if the woman lived locally, but my heart is fully breaking. If I had woken up just a little sooner, I could’ve done something.” She said her daughter may need to switch rooms because her room overlooks the Uxbridge Road, and that the family no longer feels safe in the area.

Local MP John McDonnell described the killing as a “terrible tragedy in our community” and offered his sympathy to the family and friends of both victims.

Detective Chief Inspector Allam Bhangoo of the Met said: “This is a shocking incident which has tragically resulted in one woman losing her life and another man in hospital with injuries.” He said there is not thought to be any wider threat to the public, but locals can expect to see more police in the area over the coming days.
